Though the lakhs of students are preparing for entrance examinations conducted by state governments and private colleges for admission into medical colleges, the Supreme Court on Wednesday insisted that multiple tests must give way to the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for the current (2016-17) session itself. Early this year supreme court gave a nod for such a common entrance test but did not specify the timeline for implementation. The examination spell was supposed to kick off from 1st May when CBSE will conduct All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Entrance Test.
It would be followed by Maharashtra CET on May 5 and the test conducted by private medical colleges in Karnataka on May 8.
