Case presentation A 75-year-old woman presented to the podiatrist with a complaint of foot pain in the great toe joint after undergoing several unsuccessful surgeries for the pain. Patient profile Height: 156 cm Weight: 56 kg BMI: 21 kg/m3 Intervention After physical and radiographic evaluation, surgeons decided to perform left gastrocnemius recession and left midfoot reconstruction to shed excess weight through the ball of the foot. Postoperative presentation During postoperative week one, the surgical site presented ecchymosis without skin breakdown or infection. After two weeks of surgery, the skin at the incision site had large blisters with wound dehiscence and skin breakage.
