Meibomian gland disease (MGD) is a prevalent ocular surface disorder frequently associated with Demodex blepharitis, yet evidence on treatments targeting mite-related gland dysfunction remains limited. To address this gap, a study evaluated the impact of lotilaner ophthalmic solution, 0.25%, compared with vehicle, on disease severity in 79 patients with Demodex blepharitis and concurrent meibomian gland disease. The study found comparable baseline meibomian gland disease severity between treatment groups, with significantly greater improvement observed in the lotilaner group at follow-up.

By Day 43, 47% of lotilaner-treated patients achieved mild disease or better compared with 21% of vehicle-treated patients, increasing to 63% versus 24% by Day 85. Grade improvement of β‰₯1 level was also more frequent with lotilaner at Day 43 (63% vs 38%) and Day 85 (74% vs 39%), with no serious…
