A 68 years old lady with history of low backache and left leg radiating pain for 3 months came in our OPD. Her MRI suggested L4-L5 herniated intervertebral disc with compression over exiting nerve root on left side. Endoscopic transforaminal discectomy was done under local anaethesia. Patient had immediate relief in her pain and was able to walk on the same day of the surgery. She was painfree and happy to have no incision and no stitches over her back.
Stitchless spine surgery under local anesthesia is an excellent procedure for herniated lumbar disc especially in patients having commodities like diabetes, hypertension. The complications of general anesthesia can be avoided. It has got very good results in terms of postop pain relief with minimal complications as it is least invasive spine surgery.
