At times, patients get admitted to a hospital with a set of symptoms which do not lead to a definitive diagnosis. In a course of reaching to the final diagnosis, some patients show totally different symptoms requiring a different course of treatment. The treatment plan is modified as per the doctor’s advice or specialist referrals are given but the patient or relatives are not aware of the modification and the reason behind it.
Some of them blindly get the medication prescribed while some may need an explanation of what is happening. Should doctors be transparent in discussing details about the health status, probable diagnoses, and the change in the line of treatment and reasons behind that at every step before reaching to the final diagnosis? What is your opinion?
