British lawmakers will soon consider a bill that would allow terminally ill adults to choose to end their lives with medical assistance, following what advocates describe as a shift in public opinion since a similar proposal was rejected a decade ago. One of the members of the Labour Party, who won the right to introduce a bill on a topic of choice, announced that the assisted dying bill would be presented on October 16. The proposed law would apply to mentally competent, terminally ill adults in England and Wales with less than six months to live, allowing them to opt for assisted dying with medical support.
Currently, aiding suicide in the UK can result in a prison sentence of up to 14 years. Prime Minister has pledged to allow a free vote on the issue, meaning Labour MPs wonβt be instructed on how to vote, and other political parties are also giving their members a free vote.β¦
