The global fight against HIV is facing one of its most significant challenges in decades following major reductions in international aid funding, according to a new report from UNAIDS. Speaking ahead of a United Nations meeting on HIV and AIDS later this month, UNAIDS Executive Director Winnie Byanyima warned that recent funding cuts are already disrupting prevention and testing efforts in many of the world's highest-burden regions. The report highlights sharp declines in several key HIV services between 2024 and 2025. Across 62 countries, the number of people receiving pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) fell by 38% .
