In a strange event, a 48-year-old woman developed thousands of moles on her torso and lower extremities over a few months. Interestingly, the woman did not have a significant medical history. Such an explosion of moles is a unique phenomenon that can be viewed in the setting of eruptive nevi or epidermotropic melanoma metastases. Eruptive nevi may be caused by malignant neoplasm, certain medications, and/or immunodeficiency.

However, none of these causes could explain the occurrence of moles in this case. The doctor speculates several possibilities such as associated inflammation, nevogenesis or clonal melanocytic mutation for the patient’s condition but further workup ruled out the involvement of any of these.
