The onset of dry eye disease (DED) can arise due to various iatrogenic interventions, including contact lenses, topical or systemic drugs, and ophthalmic surgical and non-surgical procedures. 1 Ocular interventions like eye surgery and contact lenses can disrupt the normal eye surface and cause instability in the tear film. 2 Postoperative tear function following strabismus, cataract, ptosis, photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), and laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgeries is sometimes compromised by dry eye symptoms.
2 LASIK appears to be the most frequent procedure linked to post-surgery dry eye problems. 2 This carousel infographic provides insights into the relationship between DED and eye surgeries.
