A 35 year old man is brought by the police to the emergency department. He had been previously arrested for possessing and distributing illegal drugs. He himself is an intravenous drug abuser. Presently he has developed fever with pain and swelling in his right upper limb. On examination his right arm was swollen with blisters and erythema. Crepitus could be felt on palpation.
His temperature was 39 degree Celsius, respiratory rate 25 /minute, heart rate 120/minute and blood pressure of 140/80. Investigations show a leukocyte count of 11000, normal platelets and hemoglobin, elevated creatinine phosphokinase, elevated CRP and elevated SGOT/SGPT.
