The US FDA has approved a combination ophthalmic solution of carbachol and brimonidine tartrate for the treatment of presbyopia in adults. By inducing pupillary constriction and creating a pinhole effect, this combination therapy enhances near visual acuity and increases depth of focus. Clinical evidence Two clinical studies involving more than 800 patients demonstrated that carbachol and brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution produced miosis within 30 minutes, with effects lasting up to 10 hours following once-daily administration.
