The USFDA has recently approved a combination of cefepime and enmetazobactam therapy for treating adult patients with complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis. Cefepime is a cephalosporin antibacterial drug and enmetazobactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. The approval was granted based on the findings of a phase 3 clinical trial. Clinical evidence In the clinical trial, cefepime (2 g) and enmetazobactam (0.5 g) combination therapy was tested on 1,041 adult cUTI patients. Compared to standard piperacillin/tazobactam treatment, cefepime/enmetazobactam achieved superior composite response (58.9% vs.
