The USFDA has approved deuruxolitinib tablets to treat adults with severe alopecia areata. Deuruxolitinib is a specific Janus kinase inhibitor. The approval was granted based on two clinical trials conducted on 1,220 alopecia areata patients. Clinical evidence The patients with at least 50% scalp hair loss, as determined by the Severity of Alopecia Tool, were enrolled in the clinical trials.
On average, patients had only 13% scalp hair coverage at the start of the study. Remarkably, 25% of patients treated with deuruxolitinib had almost all of their scalp hair back, and 30% experienced 80% or more scalp hair coverage.
