The USFDA has recently approved the citrate-free adalimumab biosimilar, adalimumab-aacf, for the treatment of chronic autoimmune diseases. The drug is a TNF blocker and is indicated for a range of autoimmune disorders. It will be launched as a self-administrable syringe or an autoinjector pen. The approval was granted after the biosimilar showed similar efficacy and safety profile as the original drug.

Recommended dosage: The biosimilar is available as a prefilled 40mg/0.8 ml autoinjector pen or glass syringe. The recommended dosage for most autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis, is 40 mg administered subcutaneously every other week.
