Uterine fibroids and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) share overlapping biological mechanisms, but the impact of fibroids on future ASCVD risk has not been well defined in large, longitudinal US populations. To address this gap, a large cohort study evaluated the association between uterine fibroids and incident ASCVD, involving 450,177 individuals with a mean age of 41 years. The study showed that individuals with uterine fibroids had a higher cumulative incidence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease than controls at both 1 year (0.74% vs 0.30%) and 10 years (5.42% vs 3.00%).
