A single pill can replace the hectic procedure of colonoscopy. Scientists have developed pills with an imaging device that can reach even the toughest corners of the colon and give a detailed inside picture. A new device has been tested by scientists, which is nothing but a capsule containing two nano-size cameras at the either end and it can travel through the human gut and perform diagnostic imaging. The system is now being considered as the alternative to existing colonoscopy.
A standard colonoscopy requires a flexible tube to be inserted into the rectum and guided by the physician through the colon. The images are seen through a camera which is at the end of the tube and it can successfully detect any polyp, ulcer or cancerous growth in the colon if present.
