An RTI has revealed that government medical colleges in Gujarat have awarded postgraduate medical degrees to more than 100 students who had either failed the entrance examination or not appeared in it. During 2015, an entrance exam for admission in PG medical colleges affiliated with Gujarat University was conducted against 300 seats in two renowned medical colleges. More than 900 students appeared for the entrance exam, out of which hardly 200 students cleared the entrance examination. As a result, 100 seats remained totally vacant.
RTI has also revealed that doctors and officials from the health department have breached rules to give admission, for these 100 vacant seats to their acquaintances.
