UAE along with other Gulf countries have put a ban on Metformin. The Ministry of Health and Prevention issued a circular to all medical zones, hospitals, and pharmacies regarding this withdrawal. The decision came after an inspection was carried out by health inspectors of the plant manufacturing such products. The specific brand of drug containing Metformin as an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient was banned as it failed to provide the required solubility criteria .
Similar reports of solubility failure were received from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority. The ministry has appealed all the residents to report any side-effects which may have been caused by consuming the product. Source: Gulfnews GDN Online
