World Kidney Day is observed on March 11 every year. The motto is to raise awareness about the importance of kidneys and to minimize the occurrence and impact of renal diseases on patients’ overall health. Around 697.5 million people are affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD) globally. In India, 1 in 10 people develop some form of CKD and about 2.2 lakh patients develop end-stage renal disease (ESRD) every year.
The most common causes for CKD and ESRD are diabetes and hypertension and these two diseases are rapidly increasing in India.
