India has joined a select group of countries to introduce Awiqli (insulin icodec), the world's first once weekly basal insulin approved for clinical use. The launch expands treatment options for adults with diabetes and could reshape long term insulin management by reducing injection frequency while maintaining glycemic control. Developed by Novo Nordisk, Awiqli requires just one injection each week instead of daily basal insulin dosing. Clinical data have shown glycemic control that is comparable to, and in some studies better than, existing once daily basal insulin regimens, making it an attractive option for appropriate patients.

The formulation contains insulin icodec, an ultra long acting basal insulin that remains active throughout the week by binding to albumin. It is administered subcutaneously using a prefilled pen and can be injected into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Doseโ€ฆ
