World Sepsis Day is observed on September 13th every year. This one-day event commenced by the Global Sepsis Alliance brings together healthcare workers and members of the general public to recognize sepsis as a global health issue. Sepsis is a complex pathophysiological and biochemical disorder caused by endogenous factors in response to bacterial, viral, parasitic, or fungal infections.
Due to a better understanding of the underlying pathophysiology based on molecular and clinical research, the definition of sepsis has recently been updated.
