Tuberculosis (TB) has become a global public health challenge, due to the emergence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains that are resistant to most anti-tubercular drugs, especially isoniazid and rifampicin. Studies have found that 3.9% of total new TB cases are of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Only 10% of the MDR-TB cases have been cured so far.
