A wrong-site surgery involving a 6-year-old child at a sub-district hospital in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, has prompted an official inquiry, after a doctor allegedly excised a finger from the wrong hand during a planned corrective procedure. According to preliminary reports, the child had bilateral postaxial polydactyly and was admitted for surgical management of a symptomatic extra digit on the right hand. Family members stated that the child had been experiencing stiffness, pain, reduced grip strength, and difficulty with hand movement on that side, leading clinicians to recommend operative intervention.
