Case presentation A 47-year-old man presented with diffuse gingival redness. The redness started in the lower left canine area and progressively spread throughout the dentition. The patient reported the lesions were painful when eating or brushing. Upon presentation to the periodontist, there was intense erythema on teeth #12-13, 19-25, and 28-29. The most intense redness was on #20-25.
The tissue bled easily with any contact and exhibited a positive Nikolsky sign.
