Case presentation A geriatric Caucasian male presented  with a three-day history of foul-smelling discharge from his right foot. He was suffering from constant foot pain for the past two weeks and observed redness and bluish discoloration of the fourth digit that was going up the leg. Two months before the present visit, he was operated on for the amputation of the 5 th metatarsal.
