Case presentation A 13-year-old boy reported to the emergency department with a complaint of a protruding pink, round mass from the rectum (Cover image A) while attempting a bowel movement. He also reported noticing blood on the toilet paper. History Constipation during infancy No history of rectal prolapse, colorectal polyps, hematochezia, or melena No abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, or vomiting Family history β A parent (father) with Crohnβs disease Laboratory tests at three months - Possibility of Ξ²-thalassemia (not confirmed) Complete blood count (CBC) - Mild microcytic anemia However, the mass was successfully reduced back before further analysis.
Examination of mass The protruding mass was noted to have a stalk. Absence of long pedicles Colonoscopy revealed Normal sphincter tone and lack of palpable rectal lesions were noted during the procedure. Solitary,β¦
