A 28-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with complaints of vertigo, confusion, and falls. She had undergone a surgical abortion at 11 weeks of gestation, two weeks ago. Her pregnancy had been complicated by persistent hyperemesis gravidarum. Examination revealed spontaneous upbeat nystagmus, gaze-evoked nystagmus, and gait ataxia. She had no ophthalmoplegia. A brain MRI scan was obtained (Image 1).
