It’s November and winter is almost here. The typical winter scene includes loads of sweaters and other warm clothing, umpteen number of visits to the kitchen to get a large mug of coffee, lazy days and sick people all around down with fever, cough, and cold. Many people exhibit a depressive behavior during winters . This is called winter depression or seasonal affective disorder (SAD) . The typical pattern seen among patients suffering from SAD is of the onset of depression in winter /autumn.

Approximately three-quarters of the patients are women. The common symptoms of SAD are lethargy, overeating, craving for carbohydrates and depressed mood, and weight gain . It severely disturbs the daily lives of those who are affected by SAD. The etiology is believed to be the fluctuation in daylight hours throughout the year.
