There are limited number of studies that have focused on the correlation between use of asthma medications and the stunted growth in children. A new study had shed some light into this aspect and has found that there actually is a link between the consumption of corticosteroids and the growth rate in children. A population-based study was conducted wherein 6391 boys and 6091 girls participated. Growth of children was measured from parameters like height and weight measurements, parental heights, and drug purchases from the birth of child upto 24 months of age.

Height-for-age deviation and height velocity were calculated and expressed in scores at the median age of 24 months. These scores were compared between children exposed to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and unexposed infants, using covariance with maternal, perinatal, auxological and medication factors as covariates.
