A 38 years old lady has come to me with a fever of 2 weeks duration. She had a dust particle in her eye on 1st April which she rubbed. The eye became red and painful and she lost vision on 13th April.

Taken to eye specialists who gave topical antibiotic but not orally or parenterally. Could the fever be a secondary bacterial infection due to eye infection? Should eye infection be treated only with topical antibiotic drops or should oral drugs be given as well?
