Case presentation A 32-year-old woman was presented to the accident and emergency department because of increasingly unpredictable behavior over the past six months. Four months before the presentation She had been sleeping for 2-3 hours at night and eating only one meal per day. She had lost 15 kg. She suffered from palpitations, racing thoughts, lack of focus, anxiety, and reduced productivity at work. She had developed paranoia: She reported that she was receiving messages from her switched-off mobile phone directly into her brain.
She was unable to look after her 16-month-old child. She was found wandering in the kitchen, keeping spoons in the fridge. Her symptoms were initially diagnosed as βanxietyβ by her general practitioner. As the symptoms worsened, she was referred to acute psychiatry services and eventually assessed in the accident and emergency department. History Noβ¦
