Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease of unknown cause.Symptoms include frequent stools, diarrhea, blood in stool, abdominal pain, fever, weight loss, and anemia. Standard treatment includes anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive and biological drugs. A substantial percentage of patients with moderate to severely active ulcerative colitis will not respond to available therapies or will eventually develop tolerance to treatment. Cobitolimod is a potential new medication for patients with moderate to severely active ulcerative colitis.
Cobitolimod is a first in class treatment that provides a local anti-inflammatory effect which in clinical trials has shown to result in significant improvements in the major clinical symptoms.
