A patient with cerebral malaria and meningitis who was restless and non-cooperative develop extravasation on iv therapy leading to gangrene formation in two fingers which needed amputation. The court had established the benchmark of compensation of plus 20 lac in this case. This is known complication of iv therapy and it's risk further rises with extremely obese or thin, repeated calculation, unconsciousness or in non- cooperative patient.
