A consumer court in Hyderabad reviewed a case involving a 51-year-old woman who died following a gynecologic surgery and ultimately held the treating team accountable for negligence. The Commission concluded that the procedure was performed without adequate justification in an anemic patient, leading to fatal complications and awarding compensation to the husband. The patient presented in 2021 at a private hospital in Hyderabad with severe dysmenorrhea, prolonged bleeding with clots, and irregular menstrual cycles.

After evaluation, the consulting gynecologist advised a total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Preoperative investigations conducted on October 27 and 28, 2021, were largely normal except for significant anemia with a hemoglobin level of 8.4 g/dL.
