Synopsis Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare endocrine tumor which has an estimated survival of 5-years in about 25%-35% of the population. In about 85% of cases, despite complete surgical resection, disease recurrence is frequently observed. Systemic chemotherapy available to treat recurrence offers modest benefit in progression-free survival (PFS) but no benefit in overall survival. Further, targeted molecular therapy available does not provide a demonstrable survival benefit.

Previously, metastasectomy for recurrent and/or metastatic ACC was reported to be safe and was found to be associated with improved PFS and overall survival. However, various study evidence suggests that recurrence is common even after metastasectomy.
