A 26-year-old woman tragically died after doctors discovered a retained surgical gauze in her abdomen during a follow-up surgery, nine months after a Cesarean delivery at a private hospital in Dehradun. The foreign object had led to a severe infection, resulting in her critical condition and eventual death at another facility. The patient had been experiencing persistent abdominal pain since the delivery and made repeated visits to the hospital where the procedure was performed, but her complaints were reportedly dismissed.
Imaging at another hospital later revealed a massive internal infection, and emergency surgery confirmed the presence of retained gauze.
