Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that primarily causes flu-like symptoms but occasionally develops into a potentially lethal complication, called dengue hemorrhagic fever. In recent decades, there is a dramatic increase in the global incidence of dengue. Today about half of the world’s total population is now at risk of dengue. In the Middle East, there are numerous cases of dengue reported each year. Some of the Dengue-affected countries in the Middle East include Egypt , Sudan , Oman , Saudi Arabia , Iran , and Yemen .
For instance, in Saudi Arabia, Dengue is endemic year-round, with peak transmission occurring during the rainy season. In 2015, 6000 cases of Dengue fevers have been reported in Saudi Arabia.
