American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) took up the agenda to educate non-oncologist with cancer staging system for early diagnosis of cancer. AJCC latest edition suggests that pathologist and dermatologist should be well acquainted with changes in the melanoma field. The oncologist should also be responsible for updating general dermatologist for easing the process of early cancer diagnosis. Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that develops due to unrepaired DNA damage to skin cells.

It is often caused due to patient’s lifestyle such as over-exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sunshine or tanning beds. These factors may trigger DNA mutation which eventually leads to an uncontrolled multiplication of skin cells resulting in melanoma.
