Lymphomas are the most common haematological malignancies. Data from the Mumbai cancer registry (2011) shows that they constitute about 46% of haematological malignancies in males and about 50% of the haematological malignancies in women. According to the GLOBOCAN there were about 32,000 new lymphoma patients in India in the year 2012. The incidence of lymphoma was 2.6 per 100,000 persons. lymphomas are highly curable.

In the highly developed countries the incidence of lymphoma is 18.7 per 100,000 persons with a mortality of 7.5 per 100,000 persons. The mortality of lymphomas is only about 40% of the number of new cases diagnosed. The corresponding figures in India are 2.6 and 2.2. The mortality of lymphomas is about 85% of the number of new cases diagnosed.
