According to a recent meta-analysis, patients with moderate to advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD)  may benefit from intensive blood pressure reduction. The average baseline systolic blood pressure (SBP) was 148 mm Hg for both standard and intensive targeting arms that were dropped to a target goal SBP of 140 mm Hg and 132 mm Hg, respectively.

Interestingly, the all-cause mortality associated with CKD during the active treatment phase in 18 randomized controlled trials was reported to be lower with intensive blood pressure targeting (7.8%) as compared to standard targeting (8.4%).
