This condition affects 1% to 2% of all pregnancies and is a cause of significant threat to women of child-bearing age. Due to the recent advances in diagnosis and treatment, there has been a substantial reduction in the mortality rates. Earlier detection plays a critical role in this reduction, and limited access to care is strongly responsible for worse outcomes associated with ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage.
