Eczema affects over half of adults aged 60 years and older and can significantly impair quality of life (QoL) and psychological well-being. Yet, compared with other dermatological conditions such as skin cancer, eczema in older adults remains relatively understudied. To address this gap, researchers examined the impact of eczema in a population from Northern Finland, with a mean age of 77.6 years. A total of 5,415 participants completed questionnaires, and clinical skin evaluation data were available for 552 individuals.
Compared with individuals without eczema , those with eczema reported significantly poorer self-assessed overall health, along with more frequent ailments and symptoms, including pain, aches, and itching.
