Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) have been shown to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, their effectiveness in treating type 1 diabetes (T1D)—particularly in adolescents and young adults—remains insufficiently studied. To bridge this knowledge gap, the Adolescent Type 1 Diabetes Treatment with SGLT2i for Hyperglycemia and Hyperfiltration Trial (ATTEMPT) investigated the impact of dapagliflozin, an SGLT2i, in this younger T1D population.
Here’s a visual abstract summarizing the study titled “Adjunct-to-insulin therapy using SGLT2 inhibitors in youth with type 1 diabetes: a randomized controlled trial,” published in Nature Medicine, June 2025. ##Reference## Mahmud FH, Bjornstad P, Clarson C, et al.
