The US FDA has recently approved Glasdegib tablets in combination with low-dose cytarabine for the treatment of newly-diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The drug is to be used in adults who are 75 years older or those with comorbidities that may preclude the use of intensive chemotherapy. Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a rapidly progressing cancer which results in increased number of abnormal white blood cells in the bloodstream and bone marrow. Clinical trials showed that the use of Glasdegib with low dose cytarabine (LDAC) improved the overall survival (OS) when compared to LDAC alone for patients who would not tolerate intensive chemotherapy.
