Hypertriglyceridemia is prevalent among patients with gout. Fenofibrate is a well-known treatment option for patients with moderate-to-severe triglyceridemia. In clinical practice, physicians prescribe fenofibrate for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia in patients with gout. However, the effect of the drug on the uric acid level or its adverse effect when co-administered with xanthine oxidase inhibitors has been rarely examined among patients with gout.
Recently, a clinical study was conducted on 863 patients to evaluate the effect of fenofibrate on the serum uric acid level. They also examined the fenofibrate and xanthine oxidase inhibitors co-administration effects on renal or hepatic function in gout patients.
