A consumer court in Chennai has held two private hospitals guilty of medical negligence after a dental procedure led to a foreign object entering a patient’s body, followed by an endoscopic intervention performed without valid consent. According to the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, the case dates back to August 2025, when a city resident underwent a root canal procedure. During the treatment, a sharp dental instrument reportedly slipped into the patient’s digestive tract. The Commission noted that standard safety protocols, including the use of a rubber dam, were not followed.
