Over 300 million people are affected by rare diseases globally. Between 6,000 and 8,000 rare diseases have been identified. Among them, about 80% of rare diseases have a genetic origin, and over 90% have no approved therapies. 1,2 February 29th is commemorated as “Rare Disease Day” every year to raise awareness about rare diseases and support individuals with rare diseases.
