Uterus didelphys is a type of Mullerian duct anomaly, where the uterine horns are duplicated along with the cervix, without communication between the two. The word "didelphys" refers to a double uterus. The condition is also known as bicornuate uteri or double uterus. During development, an early female fetus possesses two small tubes that normally join to form the uterus. However, in some cases, the tubes can fail to connect entirely, and instead, each tube develops into a distinct structure.
Duplications are often associated with bicollis, which means two cervixes. Moreover, adjoining anatomical duplications may occur in the genital tract with duplication of the vagina, the urinary tract with duplication of the urethra and bladder, and even the GI tract through duplication of the anus.
