In India one lakh confirmed cases of oral cancer are reported every year. Of these, Maharashtra has reported the highest number of oral cancer cases in the country. To battle this crisis, the state government has proposed the nation’s first oral health policy called “Swastha Mukh Abhiyaan”. Under this programme, all the private dental hospitals and clinics are urged to screen poor patients for oral cancer, free of cost.

Treatment will be funded by the government through existing healthcare schemes. This is already being undertaken by the state-run facilities. Source: Times of India Does India need more health programmes?
