Sepsis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Depending upon the severity of illness, risk factors, and geographical location, the mortality rate of sepsis varies between 4%-50%. Refractory shock and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome are the major causes of deaths in patients with sepsis. Majority of these deaths occur within 48-72 hours of treatment.

In order to manage patients with sepsis, early identification of its causes along with appropriate resuscitation and management strategies are of great importance. Several recommendations for managing children with sepsis and septic shock have previously been published. In this regard, the present guideline covers the updated clinical strategies for the management of septic shock and other sepsis-associated co-morbidities (i.e organ dysfunction) in children based on evidence-based approach.
